Installing GNOME on Void Linux is very easy:

# xbps-install -S gnome

Or without any preinstalled applications:

# xbps-install -S gnome-session gdm

Note that gnome-color-manager is required for the Night Light functionality.

Once the installation has finished, enable the dbus service for GNOME to start it properly:

# ln -s /etc/sv/dbus /var/service

You also can enable the following services:

# ln -s /etc/sv/NetworkManager /var/service # Make sure other Networkmanagers such as dhcpcd or wicd are disabled!
# ln -s /etc/sv/avahi-daemon /var/service # zeroconf support
# ln -s /etc/sv/bluetoothd /var/service # Bluetooth Support
# ln -s /etc/sv/cupsd /var/service # Printer support
# ln -s /etc/sv/gdm /var/service # Make sure other display managers such as LXDM are disabled

To install the extra applications for GNOME, run the command:

# xbps-install -S gnome-apps

To be able to use GNOME Shell Extensions it is necessary to install the chrome-gnome-shell package:

# xbps-install -S chrome-gnome-shell

The Gnome Desktop randomly logs out

This seems to be a problem on some Gnome on Wayland systems. Switch to Xorg session.
