polybar is a fast easy-to-use bar that is highly configurable for any Desktop Enviorment or Window Manager. It allows for mouse interaction based on each module and uses a format of Left, Right or Center to place your desired modules.

Installation

# xbps-install -S polybar

Configuration

Either create a config in ~/.config/polybar or copy the example config from /usr/share/doc/polybar/configto ~/.config/polybar/config.

Running Polybar

Polybar can be started via terminal with the following command:

polybar <mybar>

Basic Config

An extremely bare and basic config my look like the following:

[bar/mybar]
modules-right = date

[module/date]
type = internal/date
date = %Y-%m-%d%

Running with a Window Mananger

Create a executable script file to start the bar in your polybar's config directory named polybar.sh, for example:

#!/bin/bash

pkill -x polybar

while pgrep -u $UID -x polybar >/dev/null; do sleep 1; done

polybar mybar &

bspwm

Add the following lines to ~/.config/bpswm/bspwmrc

~/.config/polybar/polybar.sh

i3

Add the following line to ~/.config/i3/config

exec_always --no-startup-id ~/.config/polybar/polybar.sh
